Early Years Learning

Sacred Heart is currently undertaking the Early Years Project, facilitated by the Catholic Education Office.  Recognising and valuing the importance of the ‘Early Learner’ is fundamental to this project. It has long been recognised that the early years of schooling shape attitudes towards lifelong learning.  Building positive relationships with children, giving them a voice in their own learning and providing them with a rich and engaging learning environment is key to preparing young children successfully for their future. The research model for this project is based on practitioner inquiry, thereby giving educators the chance to reflect and refine their pedagogy in order to enhance the educational experience of the Early Learner.

The staff involved in this project are from Early Stage One and Stage One, as well as Assistant Principal (Mrs Lorraine Ruming). These teachers are committed to the project and are currently working on their own research questions.Whilst this is called the Early Years Project, its key principles are relevant to learners of all developmental stages and Sacred Heart is applying a whole school approach to this philosophy.Recent Staff Development has taken place around this framework and it is being used in the development ofSacred Heart's Vision for Learning.
